RStudio overview

RStudio is a Programming tool. You can launch it on Windows, Mac, and Linux. RStudio for Windows, Mac, and Linux can be found on official sources.

RStudio is mainly used for working with .R files. Other RStudio supported filename extensions besides .R are .RDA, .RDATA, .RHISTORY, .RMD, .RPRES, .RPROJ.

There are two ways of opening .R files with RStudio:

  1. You can double-click on .R file (or any other file of supported format) with left click mouse button. If RStudio is properly installed on your computer, the file will open successfully.
  2. By opening .R through the RStudio menu. To open the menu, launch RStudio, find the menu button and follow the instructions.
